I wanted to share my timeline of IUI including information about appointments, medications, etc. for people who might be starting their IUI journey. I spent hours on this sub reading about what would happen during this process and wanted to share another example if it might be helpful and make this less overwhelming ❤️ I am 36 and my husband and I have been trying for 10 months, unexplained infertility.
Before IUI cycle: insurance approval (for me this was about a week), medication pick up (CVS specialty pharmacy mailed me the supplies).
Day 1 of cycle- I called my fertility clinic and they scheduled me for my first monitoring appointment to happen in 2 days
Day 3- Baseline appointment. They did bloodwork to test for Hcg and confirm I was not pregnant and an Ultrasound to see how many follicles I was starting with this month (10).
I got a call that afternoon with instructions to start Clomid (100mg) every day for 5 days.
Day 10- First monitoring appointment. Bloodwork to test for estradiol and LH. Ultrasound to check follicle growth (they were able to see 7). My uterine lining was on the thin side so when I got the call with instructions that day, I started estradiol inserts twice a day. These are blue and you might think having green discharge is gross but just wait for the orange progesterone.
Day 12- 2nd monitoring appointment. Same tests. This time they could only see 2 follicles and they were under 18mm.
Day 14- 3rd monitoring appointment. Same tests. At this point my arms were completely bruised from blood tests so they had to use my hand. This time I had 4 large follicles. One was 18mm, the others were smaller.
Day 15- 4th monitoring appointment. Blood test and ultrasound. This time I had 3 large follicles- one was 18mm, one was 20mm and one was 22mm. I got a call that afternoon to do my trigger shot that night after 9pm, scheduled the IUI for 36 hours later.
Trigger shot: Pregynl 5000mg.
Day 17- IUI. My husband had to drop off his sample an hour before my appointment. His numbers after the wash were 93% motile, 2/2+ progression and 10.88million motile. The IUI procedure was really quick- small tube, felt pressure and then some cramping. I was told to add progesterone inserts starting that night twice a day. I find this the most annoying part of the process due to the green/orange chunky discharge at all times.
Day 32- beta blood test. I took an at home test before this so I wasn’t panicking at work.
Best of luck to everyone, this is such an emotional roller coaster.
