ADHD Reddit, I need your help.

I have ADD (basically ADHD without the hyperactivity) and I’ve been on the same medication most of my life. It works really well for me, but one of the side effects is intense hyperfocus. I can get locked into one task for hours (sometimes the whole day), lose track of time, and find it really hard to switch tasks. Even basic things like eating regularly can become difficult once I’m focused on something.

I’m about to move out soon and need to start planning my life. I’ve always loved animals, and I’ve always imagined getting a dog when I had my own place. But I know a dog is a big responsibility, especially when it comes to consistency and daily routines.

I really want to make this dream become reality, but I’m unsure how compatible my hyperfocusing is with owning a dog. Does anyone here have similar experiences and still manage to care for a pet? How do you handle it?
