I have a 6 year old mixed breed dog and I've just been looking around for pet insurance lately because I feel I've put it off for long enough. I'm lucky enough that he hasn't had any major issues yet and if he does end up having any down the line, I don't want to have to put him down because of vet bills.
I'm curious if anyone is aware of affordable pet insurance that has coverage in both the US and Canada? I ask because with the new Canadian citizenship laws, I am technically now considered a citizen (I just have to prove it) and I've thought quite a lot about moving to Canada at some point in the next few years. I was almost set on getting Lemonade but they're not available in Canada. I was also researching Pets Best but it seems they increase rates exponentially (more than most insurers) and their quality has gone down quite a bit recently. I'm trying to stay away from Trupanion if possible because of how insanely expensive they are. My issue is that if I get something cheap like Lemonade now and my dog needs expensive treatment/surgery, when I move to Canada, that would then be considered a pre-existing condition on a new insurance policy.
