Between 2013 and 2025, Letterboxd grew a lot as a platform, and this naturally changed how the Top 250 works.

In 2013, the list was mostly shaped by a smaller group of very online film fans who were strongly focused on film culture, festivals, classic movies, and established film history.

By 2025, the user base is much larger and more international, so the voting group is different in size and background. It is not better or worse, just different

Because of this, the rankings shift over time. More films from different countries appear, and the early “online cinephile bubble” influence is less strong.

So it is not only that films are being re-evaluated, but also that the group of people doing the rating has changed over time.

This is likely why the difference between the two lists feels so large.
