An Online Friend that Accidently Ruined a Marriage
To try to keep this brief and not too descript. I am a female that plays a game online. During that time I developed friendships in game. I have visited a few guys in game (just as friends) on mini trips. I am in a committed relationship and my SO has had no issues with me going on the trips because he trusts me.
Well on a recent trip that a friend from in game invited me on, he did not tell his wife, and she found out. During the trip he offered to pay for me ( I surely cant, I even tried to drive to save money but he insisted I fly and he pay). During the trip we hung out as friends, nothing intimate, as it was planned. But now that his wife has found out, he has been kicked out and wants me to pay him back for everything from the trip, beyond what I can afford. He thinks getting the money back from me will save his marriage.
I spoke to my SO and he doesn't think I should pay him back. I don't either, same with another friend that I discussed this with. I feel awful that my (what was) friend is going through this, but I feel like this is all on him. Even after telling me how I should pay him back, he said "I screwed up. We screwed up". But did i screw up too? should I pay him back for his mistake to 'attempt' to fix his marriage? Especially considering I will never hear from him again after paying him back the $$$$ money.
