Ssd and ram upgrade

Hello! I've been using a 2023 Asus rog zephyrus g16 for 2 years for gaming and 3D. Today my small 500 Go ssd is almost full and I'm planning to add one on the empty slot. I will probably go with a lexar 1to nm790, which has a pretty good price.

However, I opened my pc to clean the fans and noticed that my current ssd had a thermal pad, and I was wondering if it was necessary. Do I have to install one on my new ssd?

I also had another question. I was considering a factory reset of my laptop for a fresh start, but I am not so sure to do that if I buy another ssd. However, how does is work when installing a new disk? Do I only have to mount it on the slot and the pc will start normally after? Or is it necessary to do backups etc...

One final question, I also want to upgrade my ram. What do you think of a corsair vengeance 16go SODIMM 3200mh?

Thanks for you answers and sorry if my English is bad, it's not my language

thermal pad on ssd ?

Hello, I have a g16 from 2023, and I was looking forward to upgrade it by adding an ssd on the empty slot. I want to go for a lexar 1to NM790 (as I have a tiny budget). However, I was cleaning my pc vent when I noticed that on the ssd I already have there is a thermal pad, and I was wondering if I had to do the same on my future secondary ssd.
Thanks !
