Location: NYS, dog registered in NJ
Started dating a man who had an emotional support dog. We were together for 4 years and lived together. We moved out at the end of our relationship (2023) and I agreed to take the dog since he had nowhere to live.
He's been on and off homeless since then and cannot care for the dog. He has come to visit her but not often, as I have to pay for his transportation and we are exes so emotionally it isn't the best.
Now he is saying he wants to rehome her with people he met online so that he will be able to visit her more.
Do I have any legal rights to keep the dog in my home? Obviously, over the last 7 years I've grown quite attached and would hate to lose her. I also don't know these people and don't trust them to care for her.
