Repair or replace? In a blender and I know nothing.
14 years ago we replaced our upstairs and downstairs units.
Sunday, ac upstairs just died.
So far two companies have come out and said the same thing -
Problem is with the handler in the attic
The board (1.5k) and/or the blower motor (2k) are cooked. Cannot be sure which because the unit won’t give an error code. Dead.
I can invest 1.5 to 3.5 to repair only charged for what is needed, or I can replace.
Both said units in Austin only last 10-15y and a repair may only buy 1-3y.
Or I can buy a new single or 2 stage system.
So far it’s
10k for a 2.5 ton single stage comfort series carrier.
12k for a 2 ton 2 stage performance series carrier
11k for a Goodman single stage glxs4, gr9s80
18k for a Lennox single stage ac and furnace
If we pay for the repairs and there is a leak, gotta buy a new unit because 410 pipes cannot be fixed.
I’m leaning towards not trying to repair and going straight to the 10k option that one tech recommended (he said the 2stage is better, but not needed since we have a downstairs unit.
But I know nothing.
Any thoughts from the smart knowledgeable folks who do this more than 3x in their lives?
