Upper years feel free to correct me to share your experiences as well.
CEN 100: Introduction to Engineering
Get a 4.33 it’s the easiest course you will ever do, dont skip assignments or slack off. CHOOSE GOOD GROUP MEMBERS
CHY 102: General Chemistry
Everything is highschool content, don’t worry if it’s your weakest subject, I thought the same and ended with a 4.0. Just make sure to do the homework
MTH 140: Calculus 1
Make sure you have Majed Alquasas, make sure ur in his section every semester possible!
MTH 141: Linear Algebra
If you have Nara Jung DROP OUT or be ready to learn the whole course yourself. Sweet lady, but she should not be within 5km from any lecture hall, she isn’t the best at speaking English and sometimes teaches in Korean 🧐. Not the most difficult course content just new concepts.
PCS 211: Physics: Mechanics
It’s all highschool stuff
Honestly the first semester will be the easiest semester content-wise, the biggest struggle will be getting used to commutes for 8am and 8pm lectures and building healthy study habits. Be organized and semester 1 will be a breeze.
Semester 2
ECN 801: Principles of Engineering Economics
Make sure to go to lectures 😭😭 painfully boring but if you ask the right questions and solve the questions yourself it will get easier. Thankfully you get a cheat sheet, many students pass without studying just by using the cheat sheet but I would not recommend doing that, it’s harder than it looks
MTH 240: Calculus II
This is the math course that killed many students GPAs. But it’s not hard at all! This course is when you move past highschool concepts and away from easy first semester courses, if you had good work ethic it’s another easy 4.0 course
PCS 125: Physics; Waves and Fields
Honestly still highschool concepts, everyone passes this course.
Comp Eng
CPS 188: Computer Programming Fundamentals
Also highschool concepts, don’t slack off just because you know the highschool content and have access to AI! They are cracking down on plagiarism. Midterm is really easy, if you do the labs yourself then the midterm will be the easiest exam of your life. Final is multiple choice on lecture content, you need to attend lectures to be successful for this.
ELE 202: Electric Circuit Analysis
GO TO LECTURE!! this course is the basis of all the electrical courses for the rest of uni. Make sure you understand this well. Midterm and final follow the exact format as past exams so it’s very easy to study, just don’t slack.
Tips:
First year courses are the easiest courses ever, just watch out for Linear Algebra (Nara Jung), Economics, and Circuit Analysis. First year isn’t a test of knowledge but a preparation for work ethic and organization. Use this time to get used to the short semester deadlines and back to back exams without a Fall reading week. If you are living on campus, or confident in your work ethic and high school knowledge this would be a good time to take both your lower level liberal courses (one each semester). Personally I’d take ECN801 later, and get my liberals out of the way…
