Hi all, just after some general guidance.

In 2019, my partner was building a home in QLD. A progress invoice ($30k) in an email thread with the builder was replaced with a fraudulent one, which he paid.

The builder later said they hadn’t received payment. They initially suggested their email may have been compromised, then said it was likely my partner’s. No evidence was provided either way. He had to pay the invoice again to continue the build.

His bank investigated and gave him $2,000 as goodwill, but the rest was unrecoverable. I’ve since checked his email and can’t find signs of compromise. The contract (QBCC Level 1 (QC1) Contract) doesn’t seem to address this situation.

It’s now been 6.5 years, is there any realistic legal option here?
