Intermediate vaping symptoms (trying to quit)

Hey folks,

I had quit vaping about a year ago and managed to make it about eight months. Was going strong with it but unfortunately started to back pedal around January. My friend group are big on social drinking. They also all vape the exact vape that I do and do it constantly.

In January, I started hitting one of theirs occasionally while drinking. Big mistake. I knew it was but even after 6+ months, when I would drink with them vaping, I still had bad cravings (but never any other time....cravings had pretty much vanished except in those instances). It escalated to hitting it constantly a couple times a week to buying one specifically to keep at their place so I could hit it when I was there.

Currently, I vape (constantly) probably three nights a week while hanging out with them. I am relocating from this area at the end of the year and part of me is using the excuse that it has been extremely difficult to completely quit while they are my main social group and I should keep as I am now (vape at their place to avoid a full relapse) until I move since i do have a timeline. I know it is an excuse and I am struggling not to fall headfirst back into vaping every three minutes (I work from home) like I was a year ago.

I suppose my main question is this: has anyone followed this pattern (quitting and backsliding to "occassional" or even reducing your vaping as you try to quit) and feel like your mood has gotten worse? Since backsliding, I am more irritable and just overall grumpy. This could be due to a bunch of external factors that I struggle with but, honestly, part of me wonders if I am just putting myself into the "worst' part of initial nicotine withdrawal over and over again by vaping every couple days.

Hey folks,

I crossposted this on the Asheville reddit page but they have some rule about how you can only post about moving as a comment to a megathread which seems a little ineffective for reaching a lot of people (last time, only seven people saw my comment/post) so not sure if it'll get much traction. Apologies for the long post.

I am trying to get some perspective on building a community in Asheville. I grew up in Asheville. Five years ago, I had to relocate to another city for a job opportunity. That job eventually became fully remote but housing/rent prices were just too high for me to move back at the time.

Fast forward to now. I am wanting to relocate to another place. My job is still remote and now provides enough that I could move back to Asheville. Now, I always knew that I wanted to eventually end up back in WNC to be closer to my family but I am trying to figure out if that is the best move for me at this current stage.

My close community that I had in Asheville five years ago has mostly dispersed. I still have my family, of course, and several old friends but I am really looking for a place to meet some new folks as well...hopefully through joining clubs and groups such as running, game nights, cycling, etc. I am in my mid-30s and am also childfree and was hoping to also meet some other childfree folks or groups. My family and old friends are wonderful but we have fairly different lifestyles at this point so I am just hoping to expand my social circle to include folks who have similar interests as me.

I guess my question, at this point, is how hard has it been for new (or returning) folks to really meet people? It's been years since I lived there and I mainly focused on my core group when I did. Are there a lot of events/clubs/meet-ups that go on pretty regularly? I know what Asheville and WNC has to offer in terms of places, nature, etc. but I am curious about the perspective that you can only get as a current local...especially one who was/is also looking to make friends and build a community.

To add on, I am also considering Richmond and, to a lesser extent, Greenville, Atlanta, or Little River. I wouldn't have as much of a base level support system in those areas but they do seem like they have a lot going on. Just not sure how it compares to Asheville.

Thanks!
