oral massage/articulation therapy
Hi! I have observed this in speech therapy sessions and was curious as to other people’s thoughts on facial and intra-oral massages prior to articulation treatment??
In the client I saw it in, it was massaging buccal cavity, tongue, alveolar ridge, etc. prior to targeting /s/ for a child with interdental lisp.
I’ve tried googling it, and I’ve had trouble coming up with any studies, but I’ve seen a ton of instagram posts of SLPs saying “it boosts awateness of articulators, improves coordination, and prepares mouth for production of sounds.” But no links to anything to support those claims.
I’m curious what these claims are based in or any opinions from SLPs on it, so any information would be helpful!
