Dating app algorithms suck

I (26M) picked up dating apps again after a long relationship since my adult life is too busy to be out in the real world meeting or flirting with people.

I usually do really well for myself on the apps in the beginning. I get a solid week of matches, talk to a few where I’m not carrying the conversation, go on a couple dates and get catfished, then life gets busy again with the nature of my work (14hr days, 5-6 days/week).

Life slows down again and I come to find whatever ELO algorithm my account was at is down from like 10 matches per week to zero.

I don’t fully understand how they work and I don’t believe in matching with people I wouldn’t date just to keep it going or pretending to be a dick just to get laid. I have time to date one person but the apps are hugely unproductive and the irony of working hard to bring a lot to the table seems to be it’s the loneliest path. I hate feeling like I need to be a bum cosplaying as someone productive to get anywhere.

Sort of a broad question but what do I even do? Is this just the world we live in? S.O.S.
