Hey guys I graduated high school back in 2019 and was the last class to do the provincial exams. I'm just wondering if the CIT program would look at my English 12 exam mark and my final score or the score before my provincials. Sadly it dropped my grade by 10% went from 75% to 65% after I got a 51% on the provincials. Would they even consider me, is it important to get a really high grade for the program requirements as of 2026-2027?

I was already willing to go and upgrade my English and Foundations 12, but I just viewed my transcript and I'm wondering how BCIT would assess my Eng. 12? I know it wouldn't hurt to increase the mark but if I can save money since I'm struggling that'd be awesome. Either way I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get in, I'm going to try my hardest if they accept me. I really need this career change and it's a passion I've had for as long as I can remember.

Good afternoon former/to be CIT graduates of BCIT. I'm 24(M), 25 in July, lower mainland, fluent in 3 languages and been in the hospitality industry for a total of 7 years now as a chef. That has been my one and only interest in trades. No post secondary diploma or experience, nothing. Unfortunately I only have work experience and a high school diploma. Always had an interest in technology, I wouldn't call myself "tech savvy" but I grew up with a computer and learned how to solve most if not all technical problems myself including family. I started learning python recently day by day, trying to obtain a Google IT Support and hopefully compTIA A+ cert before the end of the year depending on all the current obstacles I'm facing. That's just life...

Recently I feel like I'm already having some kind of life crisis, lost my full-time job few days ago due to management/employee differences. Long story short started working part time with another business next door, found out wasn't too thrilled, had it out for me. General manager treats employees like garbage, expecting staffs to run like scripts. Perfection only. I'm not going to say the company's name but every year we would receive #1 if not #3 (company) in all of BC. This is the result of everyone's (especially back of house) sacrifices and dedication. That should show how tight of a ship management runs, all while expecting unrealistic standards and expectations above what's been achieved annually with no verbal or physical appreciation. I'm not going to bore you guys with the rest of my financial, family, and etc. situations.

I've been researching a lot about cybersecurity and the tech field as a whole, which led me to these certain programs. I have an understanding of the competitive aspect and where my interests and needs possibly lie. I read the curriculum for CIT AND CIS, in conclusion CIT seems more appropriate for me. Never been great in school due to the mentality I had before, I truly regret being a lazy bum in high school. I'm willing to put my head down and make a positive change in my life. Currently struggling with the dilemma of having to go to Riverside Centre to upgrade my English 12 and Math 12 Foundations, basically 2 months minimum, self paced. I would need to hand in my application to BCIT by 10/1/2026 for 09/1/2027 intake date (if I'm qualified). I feel like I'm really cutting it close if I was to get into Riverside by June next month, I would have like under 3 months to finish those courses. Anyone with experience/knowledge could possibly give me an estimated timeframe of how fast I could do it as a "capable" but not intelligent person. I'm super eager to learn and make a pivotal change at this point in my life. All said and done if everything works out, my goal is to join the field latest by 29 years old.

I was wondering if anyone who's taken/taking the CIT program could give me insight of realistically how manageable the topics and workload is, as someone with no real post secondary experience and knowledge but interest in technology and willing to work hard. Read a lot of posts, definitely not an easy field to enter. I don't come from a lot of money, family is well below average with debt. Unfortunately my terrible immature spending habits accumulated over the years, which left me little to zero to spend (accumulating in ETF/Stocks now). Hypothetically speaking, I wouldn't be able to pay for the tuition cost even if it was installments, shamefully it would be my parents. I'm terrified, if I was to fail and not be able to keep up with the criteria/assignments that would create an even bigger burden for my parents especially since they're old. I don't know what I'm more terrified of, not being able to keep up and failing my parents again, or possibly no positive change to society and to my future life and career.

Time doesn't wait, in a blink of an eye I'll be 30. A major dilemma I have is going into culinary school with the experience I have, maybe culinary school will spark my love and passion for cooking even more. I never enjoyed the strict structure with little to no creativity at the place I worked, maybe that would change and everything will get better? The uncertainty of what career path to take is killing me, I know I'm a great cook and enjoy it but on the other hand I've always been fascinated by technology and it's a road I've never truly considered until now. I should've paved myself a path a lot sooner. Should I try to get into the CIT program with *ALL* things considered, is it worth it? I really want to believe in myself but don't know what to expect.
