Hey everyone,
I recently found a substantial coolant leak on my 2017 BMW 530i (B46B, ~115k miles). A shop initially diagnosed it as a transmission cooler leak, but after replacing it was determined that the leak was coming from the oil filter housing.
I’ve gotten quotes of around $2500 for the repair, so I’m considering doing it myself. I’ve done some intermediate DIY work before (basic maintenance, some engine bay work, replaced the coolant reservoir/coolant lines), but nothing quite this involved. I can get the job done for around 600. Are the savings worth the effort? Is there anything I should be aware of or anything that makes the job harder than it looks? Also, since I'll already be in there, is there anything else I should consider replacing? I typically drive the car 40–50 miles a day, so I’m trying to make sure everything is solid and avoid having to redo this job later.
