SSP Canada the food and beverage vendor at the Ottawa Airport consistantly understaffed, underpaid and the company fails on many service points like product availability.

Staff come in unpaid for atlest 2 - 3 hours a day beacause the company sets unrealistic expections for staff to have food ready, especially relevant during the morning hours.

In the afternoon, they run out of product and refuse to make more despite mid day and peak operations have yet to occur, they simply tell customers they don't have whats on the menu.

The Debit / Credit machine also wants customers to tip 15% minnimum on every purchase, the only employee barley make minnimum wage. Prices / cost of order vary day to day.

These practices have been ongoing for a long time but became much more obvious after the pandemic times.

April 19th, 2026 at aprox 2030 EDT a Swissport Ground Handler working on a Porter Airlines Dash 8 Q400 on Gate 22 at YOW Ottawa, Canada.

The worker has lost one of his eyes due to improer opening of the cargo door, reports from coworkers indicated he had weeks of expirence and flung the door open while the support bar got out of it's hold and hit the worker in the eye.

The gentlemen is very young, early 20's and is now no longer able to work.

Unfortunatley, Training standards are sub par and despite several reports and complaints againts the handler in question they continue to be allowed to operate at YOW despite several serious injuries.
