Hey everyone,
I’m preparing the final fight of my campaign Outgunned Superhero and I need some help building my main villain, Cyrus.
I have access to all Outgunned manuals, so I can use any rule or mechanic if needed.
He’s a trickster / reality manipulator, somewhere between Joker and Loki.
Goal
Cyrus is trying to summon a god (chtulu style) using the Fragment of Change inside of him.
So the fight is not just:
“defeat the villain”
…but:
“stop the ritual”
Concept
- His reality-warping abilities come from the Fragment of Change
- Illusions, perception tricks, and environment manipulation
- He has some regeneration and just enough durability to survive hits
- Not physically strong, but still hard to take down
- Always feels in control, even when things go wrong
- More of a psychological threat than a physical one
What I want at the table
- Players constantly doubting what’s real
- The battlefield changing unpredictably
- Pressure coming from manipulation, not raw damage
- A sense that they are inside his game, not just fighting him
What I need help with
If anyone has run a similar illusionist / trickster / mind-game boss, I’d love advice on:
Mechanics:
- Grit balance (not too tanky, not too fragile)
- Attack / Defense values for this kind of enemy
- Feats / Special Actions that fit illusion + reality warping
Pacing:
- What kind of Reactions would you use against the heroes?
- How to keep tension high without overwhelming them
Mistakes to avoid:
- What made similar bosses frustrating instead of fun?
Thanks!
