I'm sure all of you have seen this one. You and everyone else on earth has 2 buttons, a red one and a blue one. Each person is completely alone, no one to influence their decision. If more than 50% of people pick the blue button, everyone will survive regardless of the button they chose. If more than 50% of people pick the red button, everyone on the blue side will die. Which button will you choose?
Let me give my take first. I'm picking the blue button, and anyone with the slightest amount of care for others will also do so. Most people who choose the red button will make the argument that it's guaranteed survival, but that's a very selfish argument. Even if you're guaranteed to survive, you still have the blood of up to 4 billion people on your hands. You could also say that 100% of people just need to pick red. That's statistically impossible. There are too many more vulnerable groups like children who will pick blue purely out of hope for the world. I myself wouldn't be able to live with the idea that j basically killed those innocent people. People are guaranteed to pick the blue button, and I don't want them to die because they did so. "They deserved to die because they were stupid." So you're saying people deserve to die because they didn't have good education, have mental problems, or are too young to understand?
That's what this mostly boils down to: will you guarantee your survival or be willing to try and put your life on the line on to save those with the compassion to do the same?
