I’ve been taking 150 mg of Sertraline for about 3 years. Before starting it, I was very depressed, easily irritated, and I’d get angry quickly. I rarely felt good or enjoyed anything.

While on the medication, I haven’t experienced the lowest lows or the highest highs. Overall, life has felt more stable and manageable.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to start lowering my dose. I went from 150 mg to 100 mg, and then a week later down to 50 mg.

Since then, I’ve started feeling like I did before I began the medication. I’ve been more irritable, argued with people more easily, and struggled with a short temper. I also feel tired and have trouble sleeping.

Because of that, I’ve decided to increase my dose back to 100 mg for now, in hopes of stabilizing my emotions again. I don’t think I’m an angry person at my core, but right now it feels really hard to control how I react.

I feel scared and frustrated. I keep wondering if I’ll ever be able to fully come off this medication, or if I’ll end up needing it long-term. Is this common and I’m just overreacting?
