I was tired of having random internet dropouts every few weeks so I had a ubiquity unifi gateway system installed at my house about 6 months ago. We put up several hotspots and Ethernet ports for hard wiring. I’m still getting those random dropouts every few weeks. The guy who installed the gateway system said it’s likely the CenturyLink modem causing the bottleneck. I’ve had it since 2021 when we moved in. So I called CenturyLink to see if they could send me an updated modem but they said they cannot and I had to sign up for quantum fiber through ATT. So, I guess my question is, wtf? I can’t just get a newer model modem? I have to change my entire Internet account? Haven’t done much research yet on quantum fiber. Do I have a choice? Is making the switch worth it? I’ve been paying $85 “for life” since 2021.
