For those voting, First off, well done for exercising your right to vote.
Secondly, a reminder of one of your rights that is sometimes blurred at the polling station:
The person/people outside the Polling station asking to see your details is a party rep not anyone you are forced to engage with. You are allowed to vote without giving them any info if you wish (A pleasant "no thank you" is all you need). Although you are absolutely allowed to give them information if you want. I just want you to know your rights, as this was something I didn't know when I was a younger voter.
They are legally allowed and even encouraged to be at the polling station as they are there to oversee the elections, but they do not have an inherent right to know about you. They are just asking. It's a choice that can sometimes look more like a necessity. They collect data for their party (there is an explanation below).
HOWEVER, I'm not telling you to avoid or not avoid them, that is your choice, I just want you to know because I don't think it's obvious to all.
As u/Acient_Tomato9592 has rightly pointed out and as I want to be transparent:
>All they are doing is compiling a list of who has voted, so that in the evening they can knock on the doors of people who haven't.
>The list of who has voted is provided to parties after the election
