I'm sure its a cheap piece of junk, it isn't recognised by the macbook or in sys info. I noticed the outer case seemed like it was already a bit loose, so I opened it up and found poorly fitted glue and a little silver tube that looks like a battery and says 12 000 on it. Also one of the prongs(?) seems bent out of shape near where you insert it.
I found it in a drawer in my house along with several other devices, a swipe card and 2x 2TB external hard drives.
