I graduated with a CS degree but haven’t been able to land a software engineering role after about a year of applying.

I was recently referred to Royal Bank of Canada, likely for a non-engineering role. I’ve been told it might be easier to get in first and then apply internally for software engineering positions.

My concern is that I don’t have formal tech work experience—just personal projects. I’ve mostly been working with web development (Laravel + React).

For those already at RBC, how realistic is it to transition internally into a software engineering role without prior professional experience? How difficult is the process?
