Had a litter robot 3 that worked well for a few years but eventually just became too difficult to keep up with. It was amazing for a while and definitely worth the price tag when it was working well but after a couple years it just was rarely worth the trouble. The bonnet was a bit loose so it often got stuck turning or would error and not turn. It became really difficult to clean which would make it so the sensors were always dirty and would cause it to not turn. The interior lining was always coming loose which would also cause sensor problems. When I moved I opted to not take it with me and just get a regular sifting litter box while my bf and I build my cats a permanent litter space (right now as we’re moving they have a temporary spot until we can get a cat door installed in the space where their litter box will live)
I’ve met other folks who have a 4 and report no such problems with their litter boxes. Are all of the newer models free of these mechanical bugs? Are all models as difficult to take apart and clean well? I have no need for a smart litter box or any kind of app I just want something that doesn’t need constant supervision or weekly deep cleaning.
My little sifting litter box is actually pretty easy to maintain I just have to do it every day and would love something that gave me a little more time in between so it doesn’t have to be a daily chore. Often I felt like the litter robot 3 was a daily chore anyway because it always needed help and eventually became so difficult to deep clean that it was just always a bit stinky. I understand any litter box is gonna need some maintenance and cleaning but it honestly became more difficult than a regular litter box over time. Has anyone had that experience with the later models after using them for some time?
Can anyone help me compare models and actually reassure me that if I spend hundreds on a litter robot again that it’ll actually make things a bit easier?
I’m tempted to go for the evo as a smaller model would be great for our set up and the website says it’s good for up to 2 cats. But I know it said the lr3 was good for up to 4 cats and I found it struggled with our 2 so idk how accurate that is and if the evo can actually handle multiple cats. Otherwise I think I’d be leaning toward a 4 as I’ve heard the 5 can have some issues with the software but maybe that’s just with the app on the pro? Even the software issues don’t seem as big of a deal as the hardware issues I had with the 3 but I’d be curious to hear others experiences.
