Rug Sweepers

See my last post in this sub if you want more details. Long story short, we are not bringing our family around my BIL and SIL after they made judgey and hurtful comments about my son wearing nail polish (the horror!). We didn’t want it to come to no contact, but when we asked to talk it out with them they said “there’s nothing to talk about.”

My MIL keeps trying to get my DH to sweep it under the rug so the grandkids can all get together. He’s been stern and said no every time, but I can tell it gets to him. So last night we called them to talk through it. My main goal was to ask them to stop asking us to sweep it under the rug. I said I didn’t want it to affect our relationship with them. I don’t think they heard me because we got guilt tripped to the moon. They said we should be respectful and just not wear the nail polish around BIL. Ok let me just roll over. What’s next? Wear only his favorite color? Don’t say specific things around him? It’s crazy. The mental gymnastics they did to defend him but then said “we’re not taking sides” was truly gold medal worthy.

I’m glad we talked, but it feels like nothing was accomplished. Anyways, thanks for letting me vent.
