AITA to ask my wife to check if they can get an hour or so of cover at work so I can attend my cousin’s funeral and wake?
Here’s the situation: my only cousin, who was 59, passed away from cancer. We’ve been gaming online at least once a week for the last 30 years, ever since we met up at our nana’s funeral. We’ve also regularly attended football matches, and also some F1 races over the years. He’s my son’s godfather and it’s safe to say we were closer than most siblings. He lived about a three-hour drive away. His funeral and wake are on a Thursday.
My wife is a primary school teacher and will be chaperoning a school sleepover from Thursday to Friday. They won’t be staying overnight because she has leukaemia and was planning to leave the school at 9:00 pm and return at 7:00.
My second child has an A-Level exam at 9:00 on Friday and I was due to take them to school around 8:30.
AITA to ask my wife to ask if someone could cover her from 7:00 am to 8:30 so I can attend the funeral and wake and stay in a hotel overnight? Or should I come home after the funeral and not attend the wake for too long, with the obvious different alcohol consumption implications in the two scenarios?
