A brilliant evening at the Annual Meeting of Electors and Community Champion Awards, celebrating the people and organisations who make our community such a fantastic place to live. Congratulations again to all of this year’s winners and nominees, every one of you represents the very best of our town. 👏
As Chair of the Youth Committee, I was also proud to give an update on the incredible progress being made by Emersons Green Youth since the committee's launch last year, alongside the fantastic support of Emersons Green Town Council. 💚
Although the council is called Emersons Green Town Council, the town covers far more than just Emersons Green itself. The work being done is for residents across Emersons Green, Lyde Green, the top parts of Mangotsfield, the communities just passed Blackhorse Road towards Downend, and the south and south-east side of Badminton Road towards Bromley Heath. Wherever you are within the town, this youth team is for you and your community too.
Some of the major milestones from the youth team so far include:
Hiring our dedicated Youth Officer, Shea, alongside two youth workers, Josh and Troy, to help expand support for young people across the town.
🚐🚐 Launching the CHOW (Community Hub On Wheels) 🚐🚐 in January, now delivering 6 youth sessions every week across 5 locations:
• Lyde Green
• Emersons Green Skate Park
• Village Hall
• Rodway Common
• Pomphrey Hill
Growing attendance to around 55 young people every week across sessions. 📈
Securing £20,040 from SNG Housing Association to deliver a two-year Lyde Green Social Action Project, bringing 44 youth sessions plus reward trips to an area that previously had no youth provision at all.
This is only the beginning, and it’s fantastic to see the momentum building around youth provision and wider community work across the whole town. Huge thanks to everyone involved, councillors, volunteers, youth staff, partners, parents, and most importantly the young people themselves for helping shape what this programme is becoming.❤️
