I’m coming to the end of one of the most absurd and overbearing tenancies I’ve ever experienced…

Imagine the worst micromanager you’ve ever had at work, but for your home. This has been our landlord. This probably should’ve been a major red flag but here are some snippets from the tenancy agreement:

• The house must be kept at 19 degrees or above.

• We cannot put ANYTHING on the windowsills

• No extension leads (which is what it actually meant in practice)

• No picture hooks, just the seven throughout the entire house that she had already installed.

• Inspections every 12 weeks!

These inspections were not a quick 5 minute check over. They were at minimum an hour and a half and it was like our cleaning abilities were being assessed and were never good enough. She was rude and aggressive. She would also criticise how we had our furniture, move our belongings when she thought we wouldn’t notice, and make up new rules as she went along, such as no ‘clutter’ on the kitchen hatch or no bottles on the shelf in the bathroom.

This has been absolute madness and a whole lot of stress and I’m incredibly grateful to be getting out. Here’s to hoping the next tenants have a little more protection from her with the Renters Rights Bill in place than we have done.

Hello, I am looking for host under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme ❤️

Hi everyone,

I’m a Ukrainian girl looking for a host in the UK under the «Homes for Ukraine».

I stayed in Ukraine for as long as I could, but my area has experienced many drone attacks. Recently, a strike hit the apartment next to mine while I was at home. I was very lucky to survive, but after that I have strong anxiety and symptoms of PTSD.

Since then, I have had serious trouble sleeping, I react to every loud sound, and sometimes I am not even able to go to the shelter with my cat during air raids because I am afraid I might lose consciousness due to the sounds of rockets and drones.

I realised that I can no longer stay here and need to move to a safer place.

I am calm and responsible, and I truly want to build a life, work, and study in the UK, because I feel this country would be great for fast integration.

I would be very grateful for any help, advice, or a potential host.

Book club and other group recs !

Hello everyone !
I'm (24f) newish to the city and haven't been able to get out and meet many people yet due to life events. I'm finally ready to get myself out there, but I'm finding that a lot of events, and especially bookclubs, tend to be full already!

Can anyone point me toward some groups that are accepting newbies? I would be most interested in bookclubs, though I also like crafts, video/games, walking, movies...women's-only groups would also interest me! Thank you :)

Lost Leather Jacket - Castle Park

This is so going to be a long shot but the jacket means enough to me to at least try.

Was at Castle Park last night with a friend and we stayed til pretty late after most people have left (about 11:30pm). I had a brown leather jacket with me with green/blue sections going down the arm. It slipped off my friend's back towards the end of the night and when we got up 20 mins later to leave it was gone. We were at an open section of the park so nowhere it could've accidentally gone without someone taking it :(

I know the chances are pretty low but I can't say how much this jacket means to me, it's nothing valuable and didn't have anything in the pockets but I've had it since I was 16 so if anyone might possibly have an idea then please send smthg my way <3

Park and Ride help

Getting the park and ride long Ashton for the first time on Thursday. Just wondering how they know if I've gotten the bus or not? How does it work? If I buy the ticket on the app how would they know if the car is mine and not charge me for not getting the bus? Could I also just leave my car there, pay for parking, and walk to my destination from there? So confused lol

Looking for some in-person therapy, any suggestions?

I've had a pretty rough few years and i'm really looking to get a few things out so I can move forward. I have signed up for CBT but i've done it in the past and it didn't go very well for me, I think I really need to be able to see somebody. Does anybody have any good recommendations? Thanks :)

Looking for a girl called Sarah

Hi guys,

I was at castle park for 4/20 earlier with 2 of my friends and we were playing with a slightly deflated basketball kicking it between us, and a girl came and joined us. She looked as though she just wanted some friends to attach herself to and her name was Sarah from Wales. Around 19/20 years old with a very thick accent, I told her my name (Tom). She left in a hurry and one of my mates apparently said that she said "I won't continue making a fool of myself" to which I felt absolutely terrible and I didn't mean to make her feel that way at all. I was wondering if she was kicking around this subreddit at all and to say sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel like a stranger x

Anyone know of a private space for after-work drinks somewhere central

Heya, hoping you can recommend a bar or upstairs in a pub for a chilled out after work drinks meet up for about 20-30 people

Will be 5-8pm on a Wednesday and needs to be central in Bristol.

I'm not a local so am totally clueless so appreciate any recommendations. Bonus points for anywhere a little kooky.

Thanks so much!

New in Bristol (40s, French), where do people my age actually hang out?

Salut, I moved here recently from Australia, and I’m slowly figuring out the city.

I’m on my 40s, French, located in the city center, single, and looking to branch out a bit. Most of what I find online seems aimed at students or tourists, so I’m looking for ideas on where the 30–45 crowd actually goes that isn’t just a loud club or a quiet living room. The only decent places i like to hang out is Seemus Odonnell, but it's crowded, and it always feel awkward because i go there alone.

Into fitness/training, hiking, astrophotography (hard in Bristol...), good food, and would be up for meeting new people or joining some groups.

Any recommendations for decent spots or bars ? Or if anyone is in a similar boat and wants to grab a drink, let me know, or just send a PM.
Merci!

Dog friendly hiking group

Recently joined the ramblers society and although lovely people they don’t allow dogs (which I understand). Having to get up take the dog for a walk, drop her home, go for a hike and then come back to take her out again doesn’t work practically for me, also she loves a nice long country walk. Are there any dog friendly walking/hiking groups?

Rave event on today in Bristol?

Coming home from work and noticing a lot of kids in rave gear walking around the centre drinking tinnies. Was wondering if there’s a big event on today or something?

Not complaining, more power to them! Just intrigued as it’s 3:30 on a Monday
