I didn’t expect it to feel this bad

This post is just me venting, and because the people here will understand me. One of my female rats has had respiratory problems ever since I adopted her (9 months ago). She’s been on medication several times and I’ve taken her to the vet, but she’s already over 2 years old and I can see her getting worse and worse. She struggles to breathe and move around, and even gets tired while eating. It’s the first time she’s fallen asleep on me, let me cuddle her, and I’ve even seen her boggling. I’ve already accepted that she probably doesn’t have much time left, but I’ve still been feeling awful these past few days, crying every time I think about it. It hurts so much seeing her suffer.

This is my first time owning rats and never expected a rat could make me feel this devastated. What have your experiences been like with illness and losing your rats? Did you expect it to be this hard?🥲
