Hi everyone! It’s my first time posting here, since I’ve never really had any major issues with my PCs until now.

I have a laptop with Fedora installed, which I mostly use for coding (I really dislike using C++ on Windows). While I was on vacation, I didn’t use it for a while. When I came back, there were a lot of system updates waiting, so I ran them all. After that, the issue started.

Now, whenever I try to turn on my PC, it boots directly into the BIOS instead of loading the operating system. It doesn’t show any boot options anymore. The only way I can start Fedora is by manually creating a boot entry, selecting the .efi, and using the boot override option.

However, even if I create a boot entry and save-restart, the BIOS doesn’t keep it after a restart, it disappears again. If I boot into the OS using the override, shut down, and then turn the PC back on, it still goes straight to the BIOS and I have to recreate the entry again.

Data-wise, everything is still there: my files, programs, configurations etc., even how things are positioned on the desktop, nothing seems to be missing. I also tried doing a fresh Debian install to check if it was an OS issue, but the same problem happens, so it clearly doesn’t seem to be related to the operating system.

At this point I could keep using the manual workaround, but I’d really prefer a proper fix.

My PC is an ASUS X556UV laptop. I can provide more specs if needed, since i don't really know what specs could be useful for this issue.

Thanks to anyone who can help!
