I went blind into this book, didn’t read the blurb, just saw the authors post on Instagram and went right in on my kindle. Now this book wasn’t bad, people have some raving reviews about it, to each their own but god I wasn’t happy with it, because HD Carlton is my favourite author - The Cat and Mouse duet and Does it hurt are my all time favourite ( have rated both of them 5 🌟) this book however didn’t feel like it was written by the author. If it were any other author I would have maybe rated it higher than 3.5 🌟 but my expectations were too high.

My issues with the book were :

The lack of details in the plot when it comes to the trauma both the FMC and MMC have been through. For some reason I didn’t connect with them emotionally like I did with her other books.
The FMC wasn’t a strong character at all, I’ve expected her to be strong like Adeline. But she was just so scared all the damn time, and selfish god was this woman selfish. She kept on telling

Dread

that she should go back to California but no attempt were made by her to actually do it. It was all bark no bite.
The MMC who is gold medalist Olympian swimmer was in love with her from the start, he followed her to college just to fuck with her. Their chemistry was weak.

It felt too easy to fast for them to love eo

And the worst thing is the mystery is boring AF, my thoughts are that Barry is the one involved. I need plot heavy soul deep connection with characters which i just couldn’t find in this book.

However I loved the bullying scenes alot
