anyone experienced this and got around it without starting over? i've played way too many hours since i failed this mission, so a backup save won't help me here :(

i made it through this part of the mission previously, but died placing the scanner in Oasis when all the crocs came at me. So i went to level up some more, and get some better gear, and now i'm unable to snap the drill.
