Canned cat food and hyperthyroidism in cats.
I was looking into getting my cats started with ProDen PlaqueOff for cats, which led me looking into the effects of high iodine intake for cats (each scoop of PlaqueOff powder has 0.198mg iodine).
While exact causes of hyperthyroidism in cats are unclear, it seems like a cat used to a low-iodine diet switching to a high-iodine diet may be associated with hyperthyroidism. High levels of selenium is also thought to be associated with hyperthyroidism, and selenium is found in high amounts in canned cat food.
I wonder if anybody could chime in with some information and clarity about this, in regards to risk factors of hyperthyroidism, controlling iodine and selenium levels for cats, or their own experience with PlaqueOff powder. Thanks!
