We bought a house on the side of a hill. It has some erosion issues. Do I need a professional or can I do something to protect and prevent this from worsening? Details below.
The erosion on this side of the house seems significant. The base of the central air is wearing away. The corner of the foundation of the house is showing. In the last picture I am also concerned about the wall, and if the cracking showing is normal. The previous owner did not have the extra drain pipe installed, and never cleaned the gutters apparently. It looks like there was an attempt to stabilize the soil years ago in this area, but it needs updating.
The house was built about 12 years ago, in western Virginia. The hill is steep, the bottom of the deck can be seen in the last photo, to get an idea of the grade. The soil is mostly clay and full of weeds. We get a good deal of precipitation in the foothills. We intend to improve the soil, and are working to add clover and lots of plants to stabilize the yard this year.
I have basic landscaping and carpentry skills and access to power tools and a work shop. What can I do improve drainage, and limit erosion. I also need to stabilize the ac unit.
Please lets me know your thoughts and questions. Thank you.
