I know this isn't a popular opinion, and even I think that the original game couldn't translate its vision as well as it wanted to due to the low resolution.
I'm also not saying the REHD Remake is bad. 2002's Spencer Mansion is a masterfully designed work of art filled with incredible techniques that still holds up today and gives the whole location such a cold and isolated feeling.
But, something about the original 1996 Mansion just feels so... Uncomfortably warm. It's so strange and unnerving that I think I prefer this design over the Remake's version.
It's bright, well maintained and almost inviting. It's filled with old 60's decor and wallpaper, furniture is sparse and doesn't take up much room, yet it feels like there's this looming evil that's ever present.
The best way to describe it would be like walking through the halls of the Shining's Overlook Hotel. It all really gives you the feeling that this place is a massive facade designed just to trap you. The lights are on but nobodies home.
I genuinely think that if they tried using this style again with modern graphical capabilities, it would create one of the most unsettling Resident Evil locations to date.
