Hello everyone, looking to make the jump to electric in June or July and starting to shortlist EVs I’m considering and would love some insight from the group.

For context, my daily driving is light, mostly short commutes, rarely more than 100km in a day. I have a home charger installed.

For longer trips (Galway, Belfast etc.) I'm happy to stop and charge along the way.

Some things to note:

- €20k firm budget
- Buying from a garage only (no private sales)
- No kids (and most likely won’t have kids during the life of this car)

Shortlist:

MG | MG4 | Long Range | 2023

VW | ID.3 | Life Pro | 2023

Hyundai | Kona | Ultimate | 2023

Cupra | Born | 150kW V1 | 2023

MG | ZS | Trophy | 2023

Tesla | Model 3 | Standard+ | 2022

Renault | Megane | Techno | 2022

Kia | e-Niro | 150kW | 2023

Polestar | 2 | AWD | 2022

Ford | Mustang Mach-E | Standard | 2022

Hyundai | IONIQ 5 | Ultimate | 2022

Hyundai | Inster | Signature | 2025

Jeep | Avenger | E-Summit | 2025

Peugeot | e-208 | GT | 2022

Peugeot | e-2008 | GT | 2024

Any feedback is greatly appreciated, things to look out for, pros/cons, models to avoid entirely etc.

Will most likely be buying from NI to take advantage of the zero VRT/VAT.

Thank you!

Sold a used car privately in Ireland in early February for €2400.

I had bought the car privately myself a few months earlier. It had a valid NCT when I purchased it. Shortly after buying it, there was an intermittent misfire, which I addressed by replacing spark plugs, ignition leads, coil pack and doing a full service. After that, the issue didn’t return while I was driving it.

I drove the car until mid-January, then stopped using it as I got another vehicle. Sold it in early February. At the time of sale, there were no known issues and it was running normally. The ad described it as a basic run-around and didn’t make any claims about condition.

The buyer has now contacted me at the end of April (around 9 weeks later) saying it failed NCT with major corrosion and engine issues, and is asking for a full refund, claiming misrepresentation.

They’re also saying I didn’t disclose the earlier misfire, even though it had been fixed months before sale and hadn’t reoccurred.

As far as I understand, this was a private sale and I had no knowledge of these issues at the time.

Question:

Do they realistically have any legal grounds here, or is this just pressure to get money back?
