Anyone here dropped out before and still had to submit transcripts from their old university?

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing a research MEXT application and I have a question regarding previous university enrollment and GPA calculation.

A few years ago (2023-2024), I enrolled in a university program but dropped out after the first semester. I have grades for the second semester somehow (but well you can imagine they re quite bad and not higher than 1,5). My current GPA is above the 2.3 requirement at my current university. However, if the grades from that previous enrollment were to be included, I would fall below the threshold.

The embassy told me I still need to submit the old transcript, but they would not answer questions regarding how the GPA evaluation itself is handled (which is obviously totally understandable).

As such, I waw wondering whether anyone here has ever been in a similar situation?

* Were previous withdrawn/abandoned studies included in your MEXT GPA calculation?

* Or did they mainly consider your current/main degree transcript?

I imagine it is not possible to know then my main inquiry is : did you still get the scholarship despite having only fails in your old transcript ?

I spent monthd refining my research plan that now I believe it genuinely looks very strong (obviously only time will tell) and that I could definitely get to the interviews but now I just worry I spent so much time working on it and gathering every document needed for the first screening to, in the end, just get rejected because of this.

I’d really appreciate any experience or insight. I tried looking up online ans this subreddit but found nothing so far.

Thank you!
