Dentist told me this tooth needs to be extracted and cannot perform a root canal. Thoughts?

I have this cracked tooth that I think became a cavity. Was in extreme pain for a day or so and called my dentist. They recommended immediately extracting the tooth and I was told they cannot perform a root canal. Insurance covers the root canal.

They suggested I get an implant after the extraction which my insurance does not cover. The pain has since subsided entirely and I can chew on this side, with that tooth.

Two questions,

  1. Do you agree that this tooth cannot be saved with a root canal?

  2. If I am not in pain, does the tooth need to be extracted?

After reading about loss of bone etc I am a bit scared to have the tooth pulled. I would like to keep it for as long as possible (early 30s) even if it means getting it extracted further down the line. I cannot afford an implant out of pocket right now, but could potentially get a better insurance plan come January or at least save up for it and be more prepared. This is factoring the slow implant process.

Any advice would be appreciated.
