First of all, thank you SO much to everyone who gave me advice on my original post. I took a lot of it seriously & wanted to give an update on my kitty boy!
Back then, Gizmo was around 22 lbs, free feeding dry food, eating Applaws tuna & shrimp wet food, & struggling more with jumping/climbing. I was also worried about possible food sensitivities because certain foods seemed to trigger diarrhea/blood in stool.
Fast forward to now:
• Gizmo is currently 18 lbs 12.5 oz & extremely active & more playful again!
• He is now fully transitioned to wet food only
• No more free feeding dry food
• He eats 3 small Tiki Cat Grill cans daily
• The only three flavors he will eat are:
Sardine in Sardine Consommé
Sardine in Lobster Consommé
Mackerel & Sardine in Calamari Consommé
I also add extra water to every meal for hydration.
He barely drinks from his fountain anymore, but I’m assuming that’s because he’s getting so much moisture from the wet food + added water. His gums stay wet, he pees/poops normally, & overall seems healthy.
I do still give:
• a few Hill’s Oral Care pellets daily (~7 pellets per day)
• occasional freeze dried chicken treats (Whole Life brand)
My current concern is dandruff/dry skin. He has some flaky skin, especially around his back area. I’m wondering if this is:
• leftover from when he was heavier
• from weight loss
• dry skin
• needing omega 3s
• or if his calories might actually be too low now??
He definitely acts hungry throughout the day, so I’m debating whether I should:
• increase food slightly
• add more treats
• add omega 3 supplements
• or just stay consistent
Does his current diet sound balanced/appropriate? Would you adjust anything?
Thank you from me & Gizmo 🖤
