I’m staying at my mother’s after my recent divorce from a bad situation. I’m staying in her apartment a few days as she is traveling with her boyfriend.
I’ve been no contact with her the past few years due to lots of past trauma, but I didn’t have many options for a place to crash, and I can’t get a place of my own easily cause my credit is wrecked thanks to my ex’s secret credit card debts from a secret double life.
Anyways I am new to this place but she says the maintenance people just practically come in and out whenever they want. They are technically allowed to do it whenever with zero notice whatsoever. It freaks me the fuck out especially as a woman with a lot of bad experiences with men from the past.
It’s so insane to me that this is just a normal thing in America. Like if you own your own place it is another story. But renting? RANDOM STRANGERS CAN JUST COME IN AND OUT WHENEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT UNDER THE GUISE OF MAINTENANCE! MORNING NIGHT WHENEVER! How are women supposed to feel safe living alone in the US? It is insane.
