Is the BB58 "tax" actually worth it if I already have the Heritage 41?
Hey everyone,
I’m currently rocking a Black Bay Heritage 41 (Blue) on the steel bracelet. I absolutely love the color and the build quality, but the "slab-side" thickness is starting to get to me.
I’m considering the jump to a Black Bay 58, but I’m struggling with the math. Realistically, if I sell my 41 full kit, I’m looking at coming out of pocket $500–$1,000 to get into a clean BB58 or a BB58 GMT.
I got the Heritage 41 at a steal.
The Specs at play:
BB Heritage 41: ~14.8mm thick / 50mm lug-to-lug.
BB58: ~11.9mm thick / 47mm lug-to-lug.
My questions for those who have handled both:
Is that ~3mm difference in thickness between the Heritage 41 and 58 worth a $500+ premium? Does the on-wrist feel actually transform the experience, or am I just chasing a spec sheet?
Bonus: For the BB GMT (non 58) fans—does the standard Black Bay GMT (41mm) feel just as chunky as the Heritage 41, or does the GMT complication make the thickness feel more "earned"?
I love the 41’s presence, but I find myself wishing it sat flatter like my other divers. Is the BB58 really "superior across the board," or should I save that extra grand and just keep grinding toward a Rolex?
Appreciate the honest feedback!
