So there is this pier in the crawlspace that my home inspector has deemed as “temporary”, but said nothing else - I haven’t been able to get ahold of them and the deadline for the home contingency is in several hours. Should I be concerned that this “temporary” pier could be holding my whole house up?

Home was originally built in 1961. The pier seems to have been there a while as the I bean is very rusted. It is sitting on a wood block about 3 to 4 inches thick. This is sitting on top of a concrete cinder block that is standing *lengthwise*, and is sitting on top of another concrete cinder block laying down flat. There is not any significant damage to the other wood beams or structures in the crawlspace.

It just seems so precariously placed to me and not solid. If we get an earthquake, could this tumble? And because it was never removed… is it possible it could be helping hold my home up? Should I have someone come to inspect it and install something more permanent?

I wish I could post the picture, but it just seems so precariously placed and not solid. If we get an earthquake, could this tumble? And because it was never removed… is it possible it could be helping hold my home up? Should I have someone come to inspect it and install something more permanent?
