Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice on what to do next with my setup.

I’m currently running a build in the Tower 300 case and I really want to stick with a vertical position — I just love how it looks. But I’m not fully satisfied with thermals and noise, so I’m trying to figure out whether I should tweak the setup or consider a different GPU.

My experience so far at FurMark:

1. MSI Gaming Trio RTX 5080

Horizontal:

~77°C with ~50% fan speed

Vertical:

~87°C with 100% fan speed (very loud)

2. Gigabyte AORUS Master ICE RTX 5080 (current GPU)

(Looks amazing, big upgrade in cooling)

Horizontal:

~60°C with ~40% fan speed

Vertical:

~73°C with ~80% fan speed

So the AORUS is much quieter and cooler overall, especially compared to the MSI, but there’s still a noticeable gap between horizontal and vertical.

The issue:

Even though temps are “fine,” the vertical setup still requires much higher fan speeds, which kind of defeats fun of having PC which can be much quite in horizontal.

I’ve seen people with RTX 5090 AORUS Master claiming they don’t have this issue regardless of orientation — not sure how true that is.

What I’m looking for:

  • Or is this just a limitation of vertical mounting in general?
  • Any practical tips to improve temps/noise in vertical position? (fan setup, airflow tricks, undervolting, etc.)

Notes:

  • I know I could just go horizontal with a support bracket — but I’d really prefer to stay vertical if possible.

Would really appreciate any insights or real-world experiences 🙏
