Hello everyone, Thank you for taking a minute to read, and appreciate any insight.

We recently had a family member pass, whose wishes were to be cremated. Our relatives who arranged the services selected a viewing, followed by cremation and inturnment of the ashes in a plot that the decedents husband had purchased years ago.

The relatives arranging asked about casket rental for the viewing, and were made to purchase a casket for the viewing. It was explained to them that the purchased casket would be cremated with the decedent.

Is this because a casket rental service was just not offered by this funeral home? Is rental of a casket for viewing not typically offered? Some of our family felt that the home took advantage by not offering this service, but this is not (thankfully) something we encounter often, so perhaps it’s not a common service that we thought.
