My new Matt Ferguson art Steelbook has arrived and I’ve got to say it’s a gorgeous upgrade! The artwork is far superior to the Star Wars / Avengers poster style floating heads. I do like the colour scheme of the red and black of the first version but the overall art doesn’t hold a candle to Ferguson’s (which also evokes the white border style of classic film posters). Also the back cover art is stunning! The Renaissance Weyland logo is pretty nice, but the artistic rendition of the Corbelan approaching the station in Jackson’s Star’s orbit is the chef’s kiss of the is Steelbook for me. Interior art is a lazy copy/paste but at least it’s an actual screenshot now in the film colour grading.
Overall, I don’t hate the original Steelbook, it had its own charm and the red and black was a nice colour swap from the usual green’s and blue’s. The new one is just the clear winner in art style and choice. The cream / white borders I’m not in love with personally, but at the same time it gives it that classic film vibe which evokes the original 79 poster. Do no regret the double dip one bit!
