I’m trying to find a movie, probably from the late 1990s or early 2000s (not 100% sure, it might also be a bit newer or older, possibly an indie or festival film).

The main character is a teenage girl, likely still in high school. She is not very social and doesn’t have many friends. I think she lives with a relative (maybe her aunt).

One day, she sees a boy (or young man) on a bus and becomes interested in him. She starts following him or observing him. She even tells her friends about him but says she won’t look at him or approach him.

Eventually, they get together. The guy is older than her and seems a bit troubled or problematic.

There is a very specific scene I remember: they are walking together on the street, and the girl sees a pair of cowboy boots in a shop window. She really likes them. Later, the guy steals those boots.

That’s the most distinctive detail I can recall. The film had a quiet, possibly dark or realistic tone.

Does anyone recognize this movie?
