Hi everyone, I’m an admitted student trying to learn more about the mechanical engineering program

I’m currently interested in automotive or vehicle-related work, but I’m still exploring. I’d really like to understand what opportunities are available and what the experience is actually like.

A few questions I’d really appreciate insight on:

- How strong is the internship pipeline for mechanical engineering?

- What kinds of companies typically recruit students?

- Do you feel like the program prepares you well for industry?

- Are there hands-on opportunities like clubs, project teams, or competitions related to vehicles?

I tend to do best in environments where I can stay engaged and not get lost, so I’m trying to understand what the day-to-day experience feels like and what opportunities are there in the auto industry.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate any insight.

Hi everyone, I’m an admitted student trying to make a final decision and would really appreciate some insight, especially from current mechanical engineering students.

Right now I’m deciding between Lehigh, UMD and Stony Brook. I know UMD is generally ranked stronger for engineering, so I’m trying to think beyond rankings and figure out where I’ll actually do best.

I tend to do better in smaller classes and more supportive environments, and when I visited Lehigh I really liked the sense of community and the idea of having more access to professors. That’s a big factor for me because I want to make sure I don’t get lost and that I can take full advantage of opportunities.

At the same time, I want to make sure Lehigh will still give me strong outcomes in mechanical engineering.

I’m currently most interested in vehicles and hands-on work, but I’m still exploring.

A few questions I’d love input on:

- How strong is Lehigh mechanical engineering in terms of hands-on experience and projects?

- Are there good opportunities related to automotive or vehicle-focused work?

- How accessible are professors and how supportive is the environment really?

- What has your experience been with internships and job placement? What kinds of companies recruit Lehigh mechanical engineering students?

I’m trying to understand if Lehigh can offer both the support and the opportunities I’m looking for.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate any insights.
