Over a decade ago, when I was a kid, someone told me on a bus that there used to be a Publix in the small plaza on 49th St N & 9th Ave N in St. Pete and that his mom used to shop there. At that time, that former Publix was a Save-A-Lot which me & my family went to very often for our grocery runs when we lived in that part of town and it was within walking distance. Now it's a Dollar General, which moved from it's original spot on the south part of the plaza in 2023 after SAL shut down the year before.

From what I found, this Publix in its early years had a hybrid of the Art Deco & Wing store designs and looking through Google Newspapers, was last mentioned in 1985. It then became a Walgreens which moved across the street in 1998 and Save-A-Lot came in shortly after. I wonder what else people know about this former Publix.
