Hi! I’ve never posted here before but I’m struggling 😅
My baby is 8 months old, rolling everywhere and starting to crawl. He’s been bedsharing with me and my husband since about 2 months old — he sleeps on my side, I’m in the middle, and he’s exclusively breastfed. We’ve been following the Safe Sleep 7 in literally every way other than our current mattress.
He’s actually doing really well now (only waking 1–2 times a night 🙌), but he’s getting so mobile that we’re ready to switch him to a floor bed so I can (hopefully) sneak away after he falls asleep.
We’re planning on a full size mattress (probably Amazon or Mattress Firm), but I am having SUCH a hard time figuring out what to get.
Our current mattress is like 8–9 years old and definitely not firm, so I know we need something better. But everything I’m finding—even “firm”—seems to be memory foam or hybrid with foam layers, and I’m nervous about the sink.
Are you guys actually using foam mattresses?? Or are you finding true firm/innerspring options?
From what I’ve seen, it feels like:
Everything has foam now
“Firm” doesn’t always mean actually firm
I actually ordered a mattress that was a 6 inch innerspring (supposed to be firm) and ended up returning it because we both sunk to the floor.
For context: I am 5’ tall and around 185lbs.
Would love to hear:
What mattress you’re using for a floor bed
Foam vs innerspring experiences
If “firm” has been enough once baby is rolling/crawling
I feel like I’m overthinking this but also don’t want to get it wrong 🫠
Thank you!!
