I am relocating away from Yellowknife next month and would like some opinions on the options I have, as well as the lease I currently hold for my apartment.

Relocation assistance is provided, so I have two options and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience.

  1. I rent a uhaul. I saw a couple reviews online that sometimes they just don't have a uhaul available. How common is this? I would hate to show up and there be nothing. In addition, are there movers I could hire? I cannot carry heavy things alone (mattress for example).
  2. I contract movers. Any recommendations? I've seen mixed reviews for all of them. Matco moved me up here and I didn't have much issue, minus some broken items I was reimbursed for.

Onto the lease. We currently have a lease with Midwest. They informed me it's a $300 breaking fee unless I find someone to take over the lease, I think. I have always been given vague answers from them, and it does feel a little bit unfair that they have a waitlist and I can give it to someone else. Do I post our lease for a takeover? How would the deposit I have with Midwest work? I am trying to get a hold of them, so I will hopefully have more information on that front.

Thanks!

Edit April 30: Thank you all! I would consider this closed. I appreciate all your help! I am not going to look into u-haul since the turn around time is close and I can't risk just not having something.
In regards to Midwest, they have stopped doing lease takeovers, so it's just the breaking fee. I cannot assist in lease takeovers. Thank you again!
